Ways people participate in the compute economy

There is more than one way to gain exposure to the growth of AI infrastructure. Each approach has a different level of complexity and risk.

1. Build or own hardware

Operators can buy GPUs and run their own infrastructure. This requires capital, technical knowledge, power, cooling and customers.

2. Host hardware with a specialist

Some businesses place owned hardware in third-party facilities that manage power, connectivity and physical operations.

3. Use compute marketplaces

Marketplaces connect buyers of computing power with infrastructure providers. Prices and availability can vary by hardware and demand.

4. Invest in public infrastructure companies

Publicly traded companies involved in semiconductors, data centers or cloud infrastructure offer a more traditional market-based route, though prices can still be volatile.

5. Platform-style compute plans

Some private platforms market packaged access to compute capacity together with projected or advertised returns. These structures require extra due diligence because the user must assess both the underlying business and the platform itself.
